TYPEN
Abstract portraits of six friends.
Each friend had donated a towel which functioned as my starting point for the object. The results are assembled and abstract portraits of the givers. All 'Types' together form a group, my circle of friends at the time.
The individual titles of the sculptures are KA, VH, AS, GK, CA and IM

TYPES
An object for you, everyday life for me. Every morning my body gains support, my face is comforted by the rest of it. What seems essential exists in countless facets. There are examples that have belonged to all of us and have lived with me since I was born. They are identifying memories. Always there and some have my mother's initials on them. There are perhaps three that I remember really well, even though they seem inconspicuous at first glance, but they couldn't be more different. When I hold it in my hand today, I see it as more than a towel, I see myself in different forms.I met KA, AS, VH, GK, CA and IM all for the first time last summer. At first they tried to hide and flirt with their identity. After several encounters, they were no longer able to hide their structure and origins. Since then they have occupied a space in my memory.
Katrin Albrecht's works display rhizomatic behaviour. As a sculptor who has worked with fabric from the beginning, she connects and designs objects that can then appear on her stage. She directs her language in and to the space and its inhabitants. For them, she creates spaces of knowledge. Her minimalism meets the object trouvé that he had already forgotten. Your objects live from their new context, their surroundings, reference and identity. Their abstraction leads the viewer to the core – his and hers. As a result, she does not create a real translation of her observations, but instead shapes her perception into a sculptural reality. In order to abstract their impressions, the gift of the person portrayed is essential. The towel you choose, which they chose as their representative finds its counterpart in Albrecht's interpretation.
The six sculptures have pseudonyms that underline this. They stand in their differences from one another and convey their inner nature to the outside. So it is Mr. or Mrs. CA who most affects me in their form, a person who stands on shaky legs, gains protection through his chosen attribute and can change his appearance depending on his condition, whether sad or not. When I meet someone in the near future who always holds their flag into the wind with only one foot on the ground, I will probably have to think of VH. They stand in their differences from one another and convey their inner nature to the outside.
Katrin Albrecht not only creates communication with and among her objects, but she also makes their memory visible. Her works are made up of disjointed parts to form a whole. Their way of working reveals a clear connection to its relatives of sculpture, the stage and architecture. In doing so, she creates architectural-looking sculptures that can exist independently of their context, but can no longer communicate with each other without it. And this quality, the elegant tracing of relationships, is the main focus of Katrin Albrecht's work.
